An explosion in the night shocked the heart of Turin

An extremely violent roar devastated the fifth floor of a building, triggering a fire that involved multiple apartments. The scene presented to rescuers was dramatic: rubble everywhere, flames, uprooted windows, smashed cars and dozens of people on the street, frightened and no longer homeless.

Five people were injured, including two children. The most serious is a 12-year-old boy, now hospitalized in intensive care at Regina Margherita Hospital with extensive burns. A 6-year-old girl is under observation. The other three injured - two young men and a woman - were discharged after initial treatment. Meanwhile, 12 families were evacuated and spent the first hours after the disaster on a city bus, which offered them initial shelter from the heat and shock.

The causes of the explosion have not yet been ascertained with certainty, but a gas leak from a top-floor apartment, currently unoccupied, is suspected.
