It's a battle, it's going to be a battle. The numbers say that frighteningly growing Alzheimer's will be a distressing problem in the near future. It was those very numbers, already soaring in 2015, that prompted Mirror of the Times to begin an action on behalf of sufferers but especially their families. A work made of attention, of presence, of care, of sharing. The way of working that our foundation likes. So over these years, slowly, slowly, we have built a world. That of those who face Alzheimer's with an open face, with the tool of human values, waiting for the winning drug to arrive.

What we do

In this context, in Turin we support the ASVAD Association and the Alzheimer Cafés project: protected, free and informal spaces where patients and their families can spend a few hours in a welcoming atmosphere centered on listening and friendliness.

Where to meet
Families have the opportunity to meet at three locations: Piazza Massaua 17 bis, Corso Belgio 91 and Via Rubino 45. The foundation offers a Stress Management Group, home support, a music workshop. And then Pet Therapy classes, with professionals from the Aslan Association, who together with Specchio also work in nursing homes, schools and with cancer patients at the Candiolo center. With games and caresses between Alzheimer's patients and Aslan's dogs, an immediate feeling is created. But for their relatives and caregivers, too, these are special moments of joy and serenity.

So far more than 500 people have benefited from these services, and the foundation will continue to work to increase the number of families helped.
