Nganzo is a small rural village in northern Rwanda, in the volcano zone of Rwankuba district, one of the poorest in the country. The area, close to the borders with Congo and Uganda, is often isolated due to heavy rains that block the only access route.
The village has two government schools, a kindergarten and an elementary school, attended by 744 children (132 kindergarten children and 612 elementary school children). The facility consists of 12 classrooms that are in dilapidated conditions. Attendance is unfortunately not always regular due to malaria and intestinal infections. In recent years, some buildings have been renovated: in particular, roofs and floors have been rebuilt, windows have been enlarged to improve brightness, toilets have been restored, new desks have been provided for the 12 classrooms, and school kits have been provided for the young students.
