Hospitals, schools, hospices: dogs bring back smiles

The Pet Therapy for Schools project provides Assisted Interventions with Animals - and in particular with dogs - in school settings to promote inclusion and foster positive relational dynamics within the class group. This is the purpose of the project aimed at pupils with disabilities attending Comprehensive Institutes in the Metropolitan City of Turin.

The initiative involves the dog becoming a facilitator of targeted activities structured according to the needs of each child and is designed to involve, not only the pupil with disabilities, but also the entire class group. The dog acts as a mediator, helping to reduce relational barriers that often create distance between children with disabilities and their peers.

What is Pet Therapy and what are the benefits

The term Pet Therapy literally means Pet Therapy, is of Anglo-Saxon origin and is composed of Pet (pet, companion animal) and Therapy (therapy). Coined by American psychiatrist Boris Levinson, it dates back to the 1960s and defines a therapy focused on the positive effects of closeness between animals and people.

The benefits of Pet Therapy are both physical and psychic and derive from the relationship that is established between animal and user: the empathy that is created, in a completely natural way, generates positive effects on the protagonists.

Pet Therapy for Schools is structured in cycles of 8 meetings during which each child, initially in an individual and safe space, interacts with the dog through care and play activities. As the meetings progress, the activity gradually involves the class group, fostering inclusion. The dog thus becomes a valuable ally, able to break down barriers and create bonds, bringing concrete benefits in the daily routine of school life.

To make this happen, we need you.

Your help is essential to make this project a reality: with a donation you can help cover the cost of Pet Therapy sessions and allow more schools to participate in this initiative. It only takes a small gesture to make a big difference in a child's life.

Donate now and help us build a more inclusive and supportive school environment!
