Immediate aid for war refugees

Three and a half years of war in Ukraine, three and a half years of Specchio dei tempi solidarity: towards those who fled to Italy and towards those who continue to suffer at home. We were asked and continue to be asked by so many readers whose tangible and generous help has enabled us to save lives, to donate shelter and relief, to offer concrete first aid. In the most dramatic days of the conflict, in February, we immediately opened a fundraiser. To date, the money offered by 6,676 friends of Specchio amounts to 1.546.882 euros. Money that allowed us to build 3 villages in Lviv, Cernivci and Rivne and support 1,200 families in Italy and transport 250 tons of aid.

Villaggio Specchio d'Italia

In Cernivci, under two tents of over 1000 sqm and with the help of Remar Sos volunteers, we host 1,500 people a day and provide 1,000 meals a day to those fleeing the bombings. There are clinics, kitchens, a cafeteria, a playground for children, and cots for sleeping. It is called "Villaggio Specchio d'Italia," named after our sister Foundation, Specchio d'Italia, and is located 40 km from the Romanian border. Specchio dei Tempi has also supported the villages of Lviv and Rivne (on the border with Belarus). In the latter location, an insulated tent has been set up along with a supply of heating totems and high-power electric generators.

These are indispensable facilities because, unlike at the beginning of the conflict, the Ukrainian population no longer wants to leave their country. At the beginning of the conflict, however, to meet the thousands of refugees, Specchio dei tempi had organized shuttles and buses to transport thousands of fleeing people to Italy. And, in parallel, dozens of shuttles, buses and trucks loaded with food and medicine departed from our Turin office, activating collection centers in the Cuneo area, as well as in the capital, where citizens and businesses donated basic necessities.

“Forza mamme ucraine” project completed in spring-summer 2023
In collaboration with the Ukrainian Consulate in Turin, at the peak of arrivals, we provided financial aid (500 euros to the first 1,000 families) and launched the project "Forza mamme ucraine," which supported around 200 women and their 400 children. When the winds of war shifted, we worked to set up shuttle buses from Rome and Turin to Lviv, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Embassy in the capital, to assist the return of refugees who wished to go back: over 1,500 people.
